Were the charges against Senator Stevens a Set -UP?

Last fall, Senator Ted Stevens (Alaska-R) was convicted of seven counts of concealing up to $250,000 in gifts from the head of an oil concern. He faced a significant prison term and had just lost the U.S. Senate seat he had held for 40 years.

Poof! Just like that, outta thin air, the charges were dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct.

Kind of makes you wonder just who ordered this witch hunt, especially since the timing of Stevens' conviction was just almost too convenient during the heated presidential election. Many Alaskans have argued that Stevens would have won another term had he not been convicted the week before the election. After all, he lost to Begich, a Democrat, by only 1 percentage point.

I smell a conspiracy.......... or a rat.
